Diener Specialist - Robley Rex VA Medical Center

Job Description:
Job Title: Diener Specialist
Location: Louisville, KY 40206
Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (On-call duties as needed)
Duration: 56 Weeks (Possible extension depending on business needs)
Guaranteed Hours:  40 Hours/Week
Pay Range: Market Competitive (Travel and Local positions available; rate based on experience)


Responsibilities:
Assist pathologists with autopsy procedures including preparation of autopsy suite, opening and closing body cavities, and cleaning and disinfecting the area and instruments.

Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols in accordance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Support autopsy procedures by positioning the body, handling surgical instruments, and providing technical assistance throughout the autopsy.
Maintain documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
Work on-site in a pathology lab setting and follow turnaround times and consult completion guidelines.
Participate in on-call services as needed during nights and weekends.
Follow medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations as applicable to the facility.
Communicate effectively with medical staff and maintain confidentiality of information.

Skills/Experience Needed:
Experience as a surgical assistant, autopsy assistant, laboratory assistant, radiology technician, or in a similar position with knowledge of human anatomy, surgical instruments, and aseptic techniques.

Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
Knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures in pathology and autopsy settings.
Ability to work with critically ill patient populations and demonstrate knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes.
Must be technically proficient and provide verifiable documentation of skills, certifications, and experience upon request.
Must follow operational protocols and provide regular updates regarding any obstacles to performance

Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physiology, biology, biochemistry, nursing, health education, or a related field

OR
Autopsy Technician certification or equivalent experience (certifications or licensure including 'grandfathered' from accredited programs may be substituted for educational and experience requirements)

Certifications:
Certification as an Autopsy Technician (or equivalent experience) – Required

Verification of all educational and training experiences, including any gaps – Required
Compliance with facility-specific policies and procedures – Required
Ability to assist in pathology lab procedures and autopsy tasks – Required
